Andy Sacksteder began sculpting at the age of 52 and is self-taught. He gained recognition for his work in 2013 when he entered ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His sculpture Uplifting took third place by public vote in a field of over 1,500 artists. In 2015, Reach and Splash was awarded first place in the installation category at the same competition. Some of Andy’s notable installations include A Young Ernest Hemingway, Petoskey, Michigan; The Last Man Standing, Elmore, Ohio, China Township, Michigan, Rockport, Texas, and Highland Falls, New York; and Reach and Splash, Mackinac Island, Michigan.
