Dennis Sohocki

Estes Park, Colorado

With monuments commissioned worldwide and studios in Colorado and Sedona, Arizona, Dennis Sohocki’s honors include New York’s National Academy of Design Award, inclusion in the Kirkland Museum of Fine Art, inclusion in Southwest Art magazine’s Sculpture of the Rockies book, and two permanent installations in Benson Sculpture Garden: Endangered Grace and Contemplation.  He has been a participant in Sculpture in the Park all 40 years of the show’s existence.

Growing up in Cleveland, Dennis worked in factories to pay for college. After completing his master’s degree, he horse-packed, hitchhiked, and bicycled throughout the American West, Mexico, Central America, and Europe.

Dennis began carving while working with Athabascan Indians in Alaska. Later travels found him teaching and carving in Cuba and Egypt. His work is subconscious, inspired by the beauty, complexity, and underlying simplicity of themes such as wilderness and relationships. To learn more, visit www.sohocki.blogspot.com.
