Although Jake Balcom graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he always had an artistic streak. A few years after graduating, his desire for creative work resurfaced, and he returned to school to learn welding. He was soon designing one-of-a-kind metal art in his studio, and his first public art commission came five years later. Since then, he has placed public sculptural works throughout the Midwest and West, and private works all across the country. Jake strives to create sculptures that harmonize the industrial and natural world. His work is often characterized by flowing, organic forms and lines contrasting with the structural rigidity of geometric shapes.
