Jerry Wingren

Boulder, Colorado

Jerry Wingren, born in 1939 in Alaska, grew up amidst Norwegian immigrants and Tlingit natives. Initially studying Scandinavian and German literature, he later found his passion for sculpture while on a Fulbright scholarship to Germany, where he apprenticed with master sculptors and explored stone carving. Influenced by origami and mathematics in nature, he crafted three-dimensional works in stone, steel, and wood, often featuring apertures to capture light on solstices and equinoxes. Jerry’s totemic sculptures evolved after visits to Japan, blending his Northwest US and Scandinavian heritage with Japanese aesthetics. His art has been exhibited worldwide and is represented in private and public collections across Europe, Asia, and North America.
