Ronald Brunson
Monroe, Utah
“Growing up in southern Utah, I spent most of my spare time roaming open spaces, observing and studying wildlife. Utah's west desert is near and dear to me. I am fascinated with the life that survives in such a harsh environment, namely coyotes and wild horses. In the past few years, I have been fortunate to travel to Africa many times to get inspiration for my African sculptures. I strive for realism and anatomical accuracy in my sculptures. I have developed a special process for applying patina that resembles polished stone. Some of my notable displays include 25 life-size wood carvings of flying raptors at Pennsylvania's Hawk Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary Wings of Wonder exhibit. Twenty of my life-size wood carvings of birds of Texas are displayed at the World Birding Center in McAllen, Texas. A 9-foot monumental bronze sculptural tribute to the soldiers who defend the United States of America in the war against terror is installed at the state and county building in Vernal, Utah. I won Best of Show in Nature's Art Show at Brigham Young University; Best of Show at the Outlaw Trail Art Show in Vernal, Utah; and Best of Show for my life-size sculpture of a coyote at the Utah Taxidermy Art Show.”
